Rural adolescent moving towards ICT
- Siddika Sultana

It was an awesome experience for the underprivileged adolescent girls after finishing their computer course. ESDO under its Ecovillage-2 (Rangpur) project introduced the Information & Communications Technology among the youth girls of that area.

This is the first time in Bangladesh that ESDO has taken this kind of initiative. Recently the computer learning has included at the national curriculum at the SSC level. But unfortunately more than 90% schools in the rural area do not have any computer. Even though there are some learners who have seen the computer for the first time of their lives at ESDO ICT & Knowledge Center when they were getting admitted for the training. The third batches of this three months course attended by twenty rural adolescent have been completed on 15th July '05. They got their training on basic computing and communication, MS Word, and MS Excel. It is quite surprising that some girls who haven't seen a computer before enrolling the course are now at hand with computer related works. This program will help them to find a job and a new source of income as well as gateway to information technology. ESDO's ICT & Indigenous Knowledge Center:
